Vegan Ingredients

You will need these vegan ingredients when making Tohi-Tohi Meat.
2 14 ounce packages extra firm tofu

5 tablespoons soy sauce

3 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice

2 tablespoons chili powder (other seasonings can be used in place of chili powder, such as barbecue seasoning, just make sure it's not too salty to go with the soy sauce)

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper powder (or 1 teaspoon for spicy Mexican dishes)

Directions for Making Tohi-Tohi Meat

Follow these directions to prepare the Tohi-Tohi Meat vegan recipe.
Press as much water out of tofu as possible using paper towels. Cut tofu into small cubes (good as a ground beef substitute) or thin slices (good for sandwiches). Smaller cubes will bake crispier while larger cubes will be firm (more fish-like) but not crunchy.

Combine soy sauce, lemon juice, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin and cayenne in a bowl. Mix to make a seasoning sauce.

Place tofu pieces into a large covered container then pour sauce over top. Cover the container and tumble until tofu pieces are completely covered with sauce.

Bake tofu on a cookie sheet (middle rack) covered with parchment paper for 30 minutes at 450 degrees. Flip tofu pieces then bake for another 20 minutes. Bake 10 minutes longer for more crispy meat. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Tip: Make two batches of sauce and tofu at a time but bake only one. Refrigerate the other batch to bake later in the week. You'll be glad you have it ready to go.
